In Your Space

The spacious floor plan includes a dining area that is perfect for entertaining family and friends.

This beautiful, eclectic 2,780-square-foot house is the home of an active retired couple at Westlake in Jackson, an adult community. While most seniors who move out of the family home choose to go to a smaller dwelling, the owners of this home wanted a place where they could continue to entertain, but that accommodated the needs that come with age. They wanted to have enough space for family and friends to come and stay for long visits.

Sheila Rich of Sheila Rich Interiors, Marlboro, credits the homeowners with having the confidence to know what they like and going for it, with her professional assistance.

"These homeowners dared to pick what they want and like - they found a place in the home for each thing. They dared to do things that were different," Rich said.

In decorating the home, the owners were bold enough to use Chinese furnishings and accessories next to contemporary pieces, and art deco designs next to antiques. There is also an abundance of artwork of various styles, and many originals, gracing the walls.

A unique painting hangs over the fireplace in the living room area.

The home has an open floor plan, with a great room that holds a living area and dining area, and a large eat-in kitchen which is open to that area. High ceilings and beautiful upgrades such as crown molding and hardwood floors make this area all the more grand.

Other unique aspects of the home include a quaint sun room and a music room with a baby grand piano. The 400-square-foot master bedroom suite features a sitting area.

Upstairs holds separate living quarters for visitors. There is a family room with a leather sectional and an entertainment center, a guest bedroom, and a guest bathroom. It is important to the homeowners that guests have their own personal space while visiting. There is also another guest bedroom on the main level.
